Childhood
1931, Decmber 11: Born Rajneesh Chandra Mohan Jain, in Kuchwada, a small village in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The eldest of 11 children, he did not cry or utter any sound, nor had any milk for first three days. His father was a textile merchant.
1932: Moved to another village Timarni with his maternal grandparents.
1938: Death of his grandfather. First near-death experience at the age of seven years.
1939: Moved back to his parents home in Gadarwada. Early years by the river. Joins local school.
1946: First experience in the temple by the whirlpool ghat- when 14 years old.
1947: Death of Sashi. Beginning of many unknown experiences.
1951: Started giving talks - "I must have been twenty when I delivered my first public discourse", said Osho later.
1952: Second spiritual experience while meditating under a tree in Jabalpur. Six-month experiment in dis-connection from the body. Completes schooling.
Enlightenment
1953: Enlightenment at 2 a.m. on March 21 in Bhanvortal Garden, Jabalpur while meditating beneath a maulshree tree.
1953-1960: Deeply immersed in Tamas or inactivity.
1953: Enrolls in Hitkarinior D. N. Jain College in Jabalpur, 80 miles from Gadarwara,
1955: Obtains his Bachelor's Degree with First Class Honours in Philosophy.
1957: Obtains his Master's Degree with First Class Honours in Philosophy.
1957: Appointed Lecturer in Raipur Sanskrit College
1960: Appointed Professor of Philosophy, Jabalpur University.
1960: Starts giving discourses and travelling all over India.
Acharya Rajneesh
1964: First meditation camp at Mt Abu, Rajasthan. Secretary Ma Kranti.
1966: Resigns from University to devote full energy to his work.
1968: Settles in Mumbai. Lecturing all over India. Secretary Ma Yog Laxmi.
1968: Delivers his most controversial talks - From Sex to Superconsciousness.
1970, September 26: Osho initiates his first group of disciples, calling them Neo-sannyasins.
BhagwanShreeRajneesh
1971: People start calling him Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.
1973 Active Meditation with music.
1970- 1974: Lectures and holds meditation camps all over India. Develops new meditation techniques. Slow withdrawal from public life.
1974: Moves to Pune. Talks, devises new meditations and therapies.
Pune One
1974, 21March: Moves to Pune, develops an ashram or commune. New Phase
Regular Camps Darshan Sannyas Therapies Creativity … al flowers.
1976: Ashram Expands.
1979: Silent Satsang.
1980: Global reach. People come from many parts of the globe.
1981: Goes in silence. Ill health.
1981: Leaves for medical treatment to USA. Lands in New Jersey and enjoys driving.
Rajneeshpuram
August 29, 1981: Moves to Big Muddy Ranch in Oregon and it is renamed Rajneeshpuram. Secretary Ma Sheela.
1983: AIDS Test introduced at Rajneeshpuram.
October 28, 1985: Arrested by US Government as he flew out of Rajneeshpuram in his plane.
November 16: Released by US Government under a 'plea bargain' to leave USA.
November 17, 1985: Arrives in New Delhi to a tumultuous welcome from his disciples and lovers.
November 18: Flies to Manali in Himachal Pradesh.
December: Moves to Nepal when the Indian Government denies visas to some foreigners in his personal entourage.
February 1986: Starts his 'World Tour' Visits 21 countries that do not allow him to enter. Has short stays in Crete and Uruguay.
July 30, 1986: Back in Mumbai. Stays in a disciple's bungalow. More and more disciples come to be with him.
Pune Two
January 4, 1987: Moves back to Pune. The ashram flourishes and expands again. Secretary for India Ma Yog Neelam.
1988: Vision for the Commune World Academy for Yahoo, The Mystic Rose.
December 1988: Drops the name Bhagwan.
Osho
February 27, 1989: Calls himself OSHO related to the word Oceanic and also a Japanese word meaning 'on whom existence showers its blessings'.
1989: Last Discourse on the Zen Manifesto.
May 1989: Does not speak again. Silent darshan.
June: Osho Multi University is established.
August: His Samadhi is ready.
January 19, 1990 : Leaves the body.
